Commander Samuel Blyth and Lt. William Burrows
"The captain of HMS Boxer, Commander Samuel Blyth, was killed early in the action by a cannonball; had he lived he might have defended his ship more desperately, but it is not probable with more success. It was his fate now to receive like courtesy at the hands of his enemy. His remains, in company with those of the brave Lieutenant William Burrows, were brought to Portland, where they were interred with military honours in Eastern Cemetery. It was a striking and affecting sight, to behold two gallant commanders, who had lately been arrayed in deadly hostility against each other, descending into one quiet grave, there to mingle their dust peacefully together."

You can't go to Portland without stopping here, especially on a Wednesday, for the buck a shuck oyster social. So yummy. I got 36 of them and could have done more but I switched to the pretzel which was outstanding. They also have a really good local non-alcoholic beer. A great dinner, and fun conversation with friendly bartenders.
Blyth & Burrows was such a cozy and welcoming bar, the bartender gave me so many recommendations for places to go to. I loved this bar so much, definitely a place I could return to!
Very awesome craft cocktail bar and lounge in downtown Portland. They have some interesting infusions with their drinks, the cocktail I ordered was a tequila and milk based infused with tom yum soup. I wouldn't expect that they could capture that in a cocktail but it was done wonderfully.Whether you're a local or visiting Portland on a trip, I highly recommend a visit to Blyth and Burrows
Can be hit or miss depending on who's working. Sunday crew blasts Bon Jovi and it's nauseating. Will ever go back on a Sunday.I would also add that I'm aware it's a sea/nautical theme but serving a dip in a ratty old tin can is gross. I know it's supposed to be a naval ration or something but it literally looks like cat food. Maybe it's time to rethink that one.
Top-notch cocktails, it doesn't get better. Excellent atmosphere.
Love!!! Came here for a cozy girls night out, and even though we were dressed up for the winter chill (think beanies and blundstones) we didn't feel out of place in this well-appointed bar. Anna was spot on with her recommendations and so personable, and I'm still thinking about the drinks weeks later - it was absolutely a highlight for us in Portland.
One of the best drinks we’ve had in the states. Almost Japan level cocktails. First time having Tom Yum cocktail and the smoked whiskey was also fire. Proper ice program with clear branded cubes. Impressive bar and bottle collection. Please check this bar out if your in Portland
Hands down best service, drinks + bites of our long weekend in Portland. The space is moody with warm lighting but with plenty of plants and quirky oddities to give the space a fun personality. Our bartender was exceptionally knowledgeable about the drinks and every bottle on the shelf (thanks to her, found a new favorite gin in Barr Hill which is a VT based sustainable distillery who wants to save the bees! Me too). The bees knees was the best I’ve had and my husband’s drink, the Ship Captain Crew, was delightfully smoky. The Mussels Escabeche were transcendent. Highly recommend this spot to anyone with good taste.
Amei minha bebida super suave e perfeita, vai e legal, lugar muito pequeno então lota fácil difícil achar disponíbilidade de mesas ou bar
Wow, the staff and cocktails are amazing.
Terrific atmosphere, top notch original, inventive cocktails and great service! Highly recommend.
Happened upon this gem of a bar while walking in downtown Portland Maine on a rainy day in October! It just happened to be Wednesday at 4pm, so husband was able to snag a dozen delicious oysters for $1 a piece while I enjoyed a clarified cocktail, shrimp cocktail and some other snacks. A very special place to which we will return!
